If you are still using the same set of wooden tools you’ve owned for a decade, it might be time for an upgrade.
Silicone kitchen tools are a great choice. They are durable, able to withstand high temperatures, and best of all, they are less prone to harboring bacteria and germs.
Here are my recommendations for silicone utensils cooking sets.
Best Silicone Cooking Utensils
(Most Stylish Design — $$)
Why it’s great: This set from oannao falls somewhere between ultra-fancy and ultra-approachable. The 15-piece set includes just the right amount of tools you’ll need to step up your culinary game. But it doesn’t have so many tools you’ll need to study a cooking utensils identification just to get started.
With the neutral tones, the gorgeous acacia handles, and the storage cup to keep everything beautifully stored away, this is a great addition to just about any kitchen décor. Plus, there are other color options available!
Keep in mind: You’ll notice in the photos and reviews that the spatulas are quite firm (many silicone utensils fall on the more flexible side).
Good for: Aspiring chefs that want to take their culinary skills to the next level.
(Best Basic Set — $)
Why it’s great: This 5-piece set might seem a bit basic at first, but don’t let its simplicity fool you. This silicone utensils set contains the essential spoons and spatulas most people need to get dinner prepared and on the table with ease.
It is a beautiful set too, with handles made from beautiful acacia wood. Another bonus is the fact that Zulay stands behind their quality. Should one of the pieces break or split, contact them and they will happily resolve the issue for you.
Keep in mind: This set is missing a lot of useful tools, such as a whisk or tongs.
Good for: Cooks looking for a sturdy, reliable kit that focuses on spatulas and spoons.
(Most Durable — $$)
Why it’s great: This set comes with all the utensils you’d need in your kitchen. Not only does it have the usual spoons and spatulas, it also comes with tongs and a zester. The tongs even have a built-in stand, so you can set them down without worrying about getting them dirty! These are made of silicone and stainless steel and are sturdy and reliable. They’re made to hold up and are highly durable. They’re also very easy to clean and come with holes on the handle, so you can hang them if you’d like. These are available in a dark gray or cherry red, for a pop of color.
Keep in mind: This set doesn’t come with a holder, so you’ll have to find a place to store them, or use the holes to hang them!
Good for: Cooks that need utensils that will last for years.
(Best for Advanced Cooks — $$)
Why it’s great: Of all the sets on this list, this 17-piece set from Mibote is the most extensive. Not only does it include varying spatulas and spoons to accommodate multiple cooking tasks at once, but it includes a few convenient extras such as a spreader and a grater. For the true culinary wizard, this silicone utensils set is a top-of-the-line choice at an incredibly reasonable price point.
Keep in mind: For beginning cooks, this silicone utensils set might be more than you need. Keep your drawer space clear of clutter and opt for a simpler set if you won’t use the included utensils.
Good for: Culinary wizards who need to multitask.
(Most Comprehensive — $$)
Why it’s great: Like the previous set, this one comes with a lot of extra utensils for a more comprehensive set. It has 17 different pieces, including a holder to store everything. These silicone utensils are flexible and bend as needed. They’re sturdy and durable and won’t scratch your pots and pans. They’re also highly heat resistant, so you don’t have to worry about them melting, even if you leave them on the skillet for a minute. Plus, the copper handles give them an extra pop of style that makes them look like a more expensive set.
Keep in mind: These are not dishwasher safe, so you’ll have to hand wash them.
Good for: Cooks that need a more comprehensive set with a lot of different utensils.
(Most Simple & Elegant — $$)
Why it’s great: This set is one of the more beautiful on the market. With its neutral grey and acacia wood construction, it pairs well with just about any color scheme. It doesn’t skimp on the essentials either. Chic and minimalist, it won’t leave you with half a dozen tools you will never use either. This is perfect for those that are mindful of avoiding unnecessary waste.
Keep in mind: Acacia wood is better left out of the dishwasher. You’ll want to consider handwashing this set (or any other set constructed with wooden handles).
Good for: Getting the beginning home chef started with a chic touch.
(Best Value — $)
Why it’s great: The sheer amount of cooking utensils available to choose from can be a bit overwhelming. You might look at the dazzling array of spoons and spatulas and begin to ask questions you’ve never thought of before. What exactly is a “slotted scraper” anyway? Do you need one?
The IMLUCKY silicone utensils set is the perfect starting point if you find all of those options a bit daunting. It includes the basics most home chefs might need, including a whisk, serving spoon, tongs, and a few types of spatulas. Its pieces are durable with their one-piece construction. A storage canister is also included which is a nice extra, so you don’t have to use up valuable drawer space.
Keep in mind: This utensils set doesn’t contain all of the fancy bells and whistles included in other more extensive sets.
Good for: Kitchen starter sets, especially as a house-warming gift as it comes in a decorative gift box.
(Most Eco-Friendly — $$)
Why it’s great: This set is made of silicone with bamboo handles. Bamboo is a great eco-friendly material that’s also super tough and sturdy. You won’t need to worry about applying too much force with these utensils. The silicone is sturdy, but still flexible enough to scrape off every last bit of food. This set has the most basic spoons and spatulas for a beginner cook. The heads are detachable as well, which makes for easy rinsing or you can put them in the dishwasher.
Keep in mind: This is a smaller set and doesn’t come with any big spatulas.
Good for: Beginner cooks or those that already have a couple good spatulas, but need everything else.
(Best Quality — $$$)
Why it’s great: These utensils are made of high quality materials and are won’t rust, break, or bend. They are made with silicone and stainless steel, which gives them a classic look. They’re also lightweight, flexible, and easy to use. The handles are thin and straight for a perfect grip in any hand. This set comes with the usual spatulas and spoons, plus tongs, a whisk, and a potato masher, for a more extensive variety of tools. These are a perfect set for anyone that does a lot of different kinds of cooking.
Keep in mind: These are better hand washed, as they seem to collect water in the handles when run through the dishwasher.
Good for: Cooks looking for a complete set of high quality utensils.
(Best Starter Set — $$$)
Why it’s great: Even if your cooking style is of the boxed macaroni-and-cheese variety, you still need a few basic kitchen utensils. This Miusco set includes one spoon, one spoonula, one spatula, one turner, and one slotted spoon—just enough to perform basic tasks. Not only will it elevate your décor just a touch, but you won’t clutter up your kitchen too much either
Keep in mind: This set doesn’t include a whisk, tongs or some of the fancier utensils.
Good for: College dorms and other small spaces where you might want to cook up basic meals with a bit of finesse.
(Most Colorful — $)
Why it’s great: This set is the most colorful set on this list, which makes it one of the best for family culinary adventures. The bright, pastel color profile is great for cooking with kids. Best of all, the one-piece construction makes the utensils less prone to destruction.
With the included 12 pieces, this set covers just about anything most home chefs will need. Another bonus is that the shape of the utensils is ergonomically designed. Frequent stirring is never fun—but your hands will suffer a bit less if you choose a comfortable utensils set.
Keep in mind: These utensils are quite colorful. If your kitchen design is all about neutrals, these might stand out in the wrong way.
Good for: Getting kids involved in cooking—with these bright and beautiful colors, who wouldn’t want to whip up a fun recipe or two?
FAQs about silicone utensil sets
1. Is silicone safe for cooking?
Buying kitchenware can be a daunting task. With all the internet buzz about toxins leaching into your food, there is cause for at least a bit of concern. But with extra care, your cooking utensils can be one more item you can remove from your worry list.
Silicone cooking utensils are considered safe to use as long as they are used as intended (for example, don’t cook above the prescribed temperature limit for the set you choose). It is important to know what to look for, as is the case when purchasing any cooking accessory. Choosing high-quality, FDA-approved silicone utensils helps ensure toxins won’t leach into your food.
2. Is silicone better than plastic for cooking?
If you have a set of chipped plastic utensils languishing in a back drawer, it might be time for an upgrade. Silicone is considered a better cooking material than plastic for several reasons. Not only does it have a higher heat tolerance, but it is less likely to leak chemicals such as BPA into your food. Additionally, silicone cooking utensils are less reactive to the chemistry of the food you might be cooking.
3. Is silicone BPA free?
Silicone utensils are BPA-free. As mentioned above, this makes them an excellent option for home cooks concerned about reducing chemicals in their kitchen.
4. Can silicone utensils go in the dishwasher?
Silicone utensils are dishwasher-safe, technically speaking. But you will notice on most listings that popping them in the dishwasher isn’t the best idea. This is simply because the dishwasher isn’t the best way to clean them. Handwashing is preferable, especially if your set contains wood parts.
5. How long will silicone utensils last?
How long your silicone utensils last will depend in large part on not only the quality of the set you choose but also how well you take care of it. Generally speaking, however, silicone utensils are known for their hardiness. For example, silicone utensils can better bear the shock of going from extreme heat to extreme cold without shattering.
That being said, silicone utensils can scratch easily. And if you choose a set with wooden handles, you will have to be careful to make sure the pieces don’t split. These considerations aside, with a bit of care, your silicone utensils can last for years.
6. Is silicone considered eco-friendly?
One additional reason to love silicone utensils is that they are generally considered easier on the environment than their plastic peers. Silicone lasts longer, which means you won’t need to replace your utensils as often, which is good for the environment and your pocketbook.
With their durability and excellent cooking applications, silicone utensils are a must for just about any home chef. With beautiful applications of engraved acacia woods and neutral tones, they might be one of the more beautiful additions to your countertop décor.
