I carry a towel with me pretty much everywhere I go. I’m always spending time outside with my family, and I hate getting hot and sweaty and not being able to do anything about it. This is especially true when playing a game of football. I’ve used quite a wide variety of towels, and these seven have completely upped my game–I can’t recommend them enough.
If you’re like me and hate feeling hot and drenched in sweat, consider using one of these football towels. They’ll not only help you stay dry, but they also help keep your equipment clean and easy to handle–something that’s vital to your football game! And, unfortunately, your everyday bath towel won’t cut it.
The Best Football Towels
Why it’s great: If you play or watch sports, then you’ve probably seen this towel used by the pros. The absorbent quick-try terry fabric helps you stay dry all game long. It features a velcro loop closure so it can hook to a quarterback or center’s belt. It also comes with a locker tag, so you’ll always know who’s towel is whos.
Keep in mind: The towel tends to be larger than most sports towels, so it may take some time to get used to.
Good for: Players that wanna look like the pros
Why it’s great: Cooling towels are truly a game-changer for athletes. The HERO Cooling Towel is my favorite. Soak it in water, wring it out, and wrap it around your neck for instant heat relief. Nothing feels better during a football game.
It’s thicker than many cooling towels you will find, which helps the cooling sensation last longer. This means you won’t have to worry about always needing to keep it wet.
Keep in mind: Typically the towel will need to be dipped in water every 30-60 minutes to reset the cooling effect.
Good for: An intense game of football
Why it’s great: Much like the Nike towel, the Gatorade sideline towel is loved by all athletes. There’s a reason so many use and trust it. The black side is soft and fluffy, while the white side is more of a terry-cloth fabric meant for absorbing. The black is great for wiping dirt and sweat off the football while the white is great for wiping sweat.
I’ve used and washed this towel multiple times after intense workouts, and the color has yet to fade. It’s also kept its softness. Although I’ve had it for a short while, I can tell that this is a towel that will last a long time.
Keep in mind: The black side of the towel may bleed on your first wash, so wash it with darks or in a load of its own.
Good for: Wannabe pros
Why it’s great: This travel towel can be used for every sport or outdoor activity. The towel is compact, absorbent, convenient, and available in various colors. Any time that I have used this towel, it has dried my sweat immediately and has done so with no odor, which I find pretty remarkable because I can work up a serious sweat.
Some microfiber towels can feel pretty rough on dry hands. It’s one of my least favorite feelings. I never got that uncomfortable feeling with this towel, which makes a huge difference when you’re handling sports equipment.
Keep in mind: It’s thinner than your average bath towel, so it may take some time to get used to. However, don’t let that deter you. It dries very quickly and does a good job of soaking up every droplet.
Good for: The everyday football game
Why it’s great: Adidas has gotten a great reputation for being one of the best athletic companies. Their products tend to be extremely durable and long-lasting, no matter how much you wash and dry them. This football towel is no different. Cotton terry fabric was used for extra absorption and comfort.
Much like the Nike towel, it is meant specifically for football players, which means that it has a velcro closure meant to be attached to football pants. The main difference between the two is that the Adidas is a couple of inches smaller. This may be a pro or con depending on what you are looking for.
Keep in mind: It only comes in white or dark pink, so it gets dirty easier. This means you may have to wash it more frequently.
Good for: Younger players
Why it’s great: This one is a little different than the others on the list. Rather than a traditional towel, this is a head wrap meant to be worn under a helmet. It’s meant to keep your hair and sweat out of your eyes and your focus on your game.
It has flatlock construction with a tapered design, so it offers maximum ventilation– so you know you’ll be cool throughout the entire game. The creator, Battle Store, was formed by former athletes, so they understand the importance of tough, durable equipment that won’t fail you when you need it most.
Keep in mind: Because it’s a head wrap rather than a towel, you will want to look at measurements. It is made of a stretchy material; however, it may run too small or too large for your head.
Good for: Athletes that take their game seriously
Why it’s great: The Grip Boost football towel markets itself as one of the first towels of its kind. It’s very slim, with a modern cut and ultra-micro fiber fabric. It’s meant for not only functionality but style as well. Designed by athletes and engineers, a lot of time was spent perfecting this towel.
Keep in mind: The towel is on the longer side, so it may get in your way the first few uses. Once you are aware of how much space it takes up.
Good for: Runningbacks
