Hey Asher,
I’m going to India next month for two months and your blog has been very helpful regarding how to prepare for such a journey. I wanted to ask you about bringing professional camera equipment with me. It seems you took a professional camera with you. Is it safe to bring such equipment? What precautions did you have to make?
Thanks so much,
Joseph.

Hi Joseph,
Here goo.gl/Spbsz5 is the backpack I use for photography in India – it also has space for my laptop and computer. The main problem there is the irregular power supply. I have had a lot of trouble recharging Canon batteries and I no longer use them. Instead I use rechargeable AA batteries with an adaptor like thisgoo.gl/WYdDsT and a recharger. The other problems are dust/ dirt and thievery. Dust and dirt you just have to be real careful changing lens etc. I’ve never had a problem with thievery but I usually bring my own extra locks for my hotel rooms so that they don’t have keys. Here is an example lock goo.gl/E5ws0e. And I try to never show my equipment to hotel staff.
All the best,
Asher.

Hi Asher,
I’m preparing my first trip to India, 3 months, and your website is very helpful. Thanks for that.
I have a big question regarding taking a camera. I’ve spent all my life with a camera between me and the world and I really want India to be a spiritual trip, so I really don’t want to take my camera with me.
My question is, will I regret not taking it?
Thanks so much!!
